WOW! What a great event! Hundreds of broadcast students and their advisers enjoyed this special event with great informational sessions, lots of fun and great weather! Carrier current, cable FM, Cable TV, TV, Internet, FM and other stations all took advantage of the great opportunities to meet with their peers and professionals in the industry. The 2006 Spring Conference is just around the corner.

Start making your plans now for the Spring convention, to be held March 16 - 19 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. This event is smaller, but the rewards are no less as we bring in the stars to meet with you in intimate sessions.

There will also be ample opportunities to take full advantage of the location!

CBI Board Elections: Candidates Found - the results are in...

CBI is run by elected members of stations that belong to CBI. There were three seats open on the board and the results of the elections, by member stations, were announced at the annual member meeting.

Elected to two year terms...
Candy Walton from the University of South Dakota,
Jim Hayes from Vanderbilt University, and
Bill Laird from the University of Texas at Austin.

CBI helps stations on a one to one basis and also helps to shape regulations that have an effect on all stations. You can be a great source of help to individual stations, students and the entire sector by becoming a member of the CBI advisory board or running for a seat in next years elections.

CBI National Student Production Awards!

The results were announced during the awards program at the annual fall convention, which was held October 26-30 in Kansas City. To see a list of finalists and winners, please visit our awards page.

CBI is excited about this program as we continue to recognize students for their work! There were over 400 entries in this years contest! If you did not enter this year, remember that all CBI members will have their entry fees waived which can save your station hundreds of dollars. Join CBI today in order to save money and enter your student productions into the 2006 contest!

Webcasting Info Central

CBI has been and continues to be THE source for help with webcasting for stations like yours! That's because our board and advisory board are comprised of representatives of stations like yours!

CBI has entered into the negotiation/arbitration process on behalf of educational stations like yours. CBI is actively working to establish the rates and terms for 2006 - 2010. For a detailed background on this topic, please visit the streaming info page, which contains links to various proceedings and a background explanation of how this all developed.

Here are the simple rules for educational webcasters who wish to continue webcasting in 2005.

    * SoundExchange (the entity that collects webcasting fees) has posted new forms to pay fees. Please use the form provided by this link, (most schools) if you only webcast one channel of content (multiple bit rates and formats do not constitute additional channels).
    * Use this LINK if you stream multiple channels that contain different content.
    * Remember that SE will not send you an invoice and you are required to pay these fees in almost all circumstances.

The FCC issued an inquiry as to what constitutes "localism" which could affect your station! The text of the inquiry is here. The FCC proposal is a very broad look at what it will require of stations in the future.

CBI is the only representative of college media to file comments and reply comments in this proceeding with the FCC. Our comments and reply comments support your stations and its activities. Specifically, CBI asked for changes to make life and compliance with the regulations easier for educational stations! NO OTHER COLLEGE MEDIA ORGANIZATION HAS DONE THIS! NONE!
